Denture Club of America was founded by Drs. John Hodges and Daniel Lee to address the growing need for comprehensive and long-term care for America’s growing number of denture wearers. Patients at their dental implant specialty practice in Covington, WA had routinely expressed that they were less concerned about the initial cost of implant treatment then they were about the costs to maintain the implants and restorations or to repair or replace them if needed.
With many of their denture wearing patients having a fixed income, Dr. Hodges and Dr. Lee were searching for a way to make maintenance and repair costs predictable. Many patients did not have dental insurance or their insurance failed to cover most of the costs required to take care of their oral health.
“We wanted to create a kind of security for our patients, something similar to a car warranty or a warranty that you would buy on a computer at Best Buy,” said Dr. Hodges. “We could charge patients a lump one-time fee, like a computer warranty, but if a patient moved away we wouldn’t have a way to honor the warranty and still keep the price on the warranty reasonable. Then Danny (Dr. Lee) had the idea of a monthly service contract, like for your cell phone. Those cover most maintenance and repairs at no additional charge, and if something catastrophic occurs, like losing your phone, you only have to pay a deductible. If you don’t want your phone covered anymore you just cancel your monthly payment.”
Dr. Hodges and Dr. Lee spent 2 years developing Denture Club of America. They brought in several analysts and industry specialists to develop a model that was predictable and sustainable. Denture Club of America has several branches in Washington and they plan to expand to other states soon.
